Stephen is a serial entrepreneur who has founded companies in various industries—including in manufacturing, retail, real estate, investment banking, healthy restaurants (LYFE Kitchen) and food brands (Luvo)—raising over a billion dollars in the process. He has been featured in business publications as an industry disrupter by Bloomberg, Fast Company, Fortune, NY Times, CNBC, and Huffington Post among others.

Stephen is committed to creating a greener, healthier planet for future generations. His current mission is to revolutionize the global construction industry, using Nexii's building technology to create a brighter future.

 

Gregor Robertson

Gregor Robertson  |  Executive Vice President, Strategy and Partnerships

After leading the city of Vancouver as its longest serving Mayor, Gregor Robertson now focuses his work on positive solutions to the climate crisis, both with the Nexii leadership team and as Global Ambassador for the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy.

His vision for a greener, more inclusive Vancouver led to record-setting years for new housing, job growth and the lowest carbon emissions per person for any major city in North America. The city now consistently ranks among the top five green and livable cities in the world.

Before serving as mayor, Gregor served in the BC Parliament, he co-founded and led Happy Planet Foods, and was an organic farmer.

 

Ben Dumbowsky

Ben Dombowsky  |  Co-founder, Co-inventor & SVP, Product Development

Ben has been a creative problem solver, innovator and inventor his whole life, with experience founding several ventures and bringing multiple products to market. He is the co-founder of Eneray Sustainable Structures Inc., a building research and development company based in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, which formed the basis and inspiration for the Nexii assembly system and Nexiite material.

As the VP of Business Development, he helped lead the company in developing numerous products and processes in the area of materials sciences and manufacturing that are revolutionizing the way buildings are constructed.

 

Michael Dumbowsky

Michael Dombowsky  |  Co-founder, Co-inventor & SVP, Building Technology

Michael is a prolific inventor and developer of building products and systems, with a passion for sustainable structures and sustainable living. Most notably, Michael is the inventor behind the Nexii whole building solution. For over 40 years, he has designed and built projects from custom residential to multi-family, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. During that time, he has also manufactured the structural steel and precast concrete for this wide range of buildings.

A notable accomplishment was the design and construction of the Tunnels of Moose Jaw—a national award-winning tourist attraction that has boasted over 2 million tourists from all around the world over the last 20 years.

 

Todd Buchanan

Todd Buchanan  |  Executive Vice President, Investor Relations

Todd has 25 years experience working with a range of Fortune 500, public and private companies on the creation and implementation of business management processes and technology. Most recently, he has focused on assisting founders and families with start-ups through proof of concept and hyper growth in consumer products and technology sectors. Todd is a Managing Director of Equifaira and he currently serves on the boards of directors, and in various advisory capacities, with a number of companies and a non-profit organization.

 

Andrew MacDonald

Andrew Macdonald  |  VP, Business Development

Andrew brings over 30 years of experience working in the area of corporate sustainability integration and is a licensed Energy Advisor with NRCAN in British Columbia. Andrew has been creating value at the intersection of commerce and sustainability as an entrepreneur, translator, educator and guide within a broad array of industries. Andrew’s past roles include Director of Sustainability at Volkswagen and National Liaison at Built Green Canada. Andrew was also a member of the Canadian National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy from 2009 until 2013.

 

Rob Simpson

Rob Simpson  |  P.Eng., Struct Eng, MBA, FEC, LEED AP SVP, Engineering

Rob’s career has included designs of some of Canada’s most unique and challenging building designs. Recent work with Glotman Simpson include Vancouver House, Vancouver Convention Centre, Olympic Village, Richmond Speed Skating Oval, Whistler’s Peak to Peak Gondola and many more. Earthquake safety has been a passion for Rob. First-hand experience from several weeks investigation of collapsed structures during a visit to California in 1994 and Chile in 2010 was the trigger for developing his deep understanding of building resilience, and his subsequent work to improve Building Codes in Canada.

Rob Simpson retired from full time work with Glotman Simpson in 2016, intending to limit his work life to occasional office visits and mentoring. Inspired by Nexii’s potential, Rob has left retirement to lead and advise Nexii’s design team.

 

David Craig

David Craig  |   B. App. Sc., CPA, CA, VP Corporate Development

David is a former Comptroller for BC Hydro and Power Authority. He is a senior management consultant with over 45 years of experience in the energy sector and over 24 years in the business consulting sector. For the past 24 years David has been running his own consulting firm. For the last 15 years he has also been the Executive Director of the Commercial Energy Consumers Association of BC and is the current Policy Chair for the BC Chamber of Commerce Policy Review Committee. David is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and has held positions at several TSX publicly traded corporations, public institutions, private companies and non-profit organizations.

 

Natalia Dumitrescu

Natalia Dumitrescu  |  Director of Supply Chain Management

Natalia is a Diplomat Engineer and Lean Six Sigma professional with over 25 years experience in all aspects of supply chain management. A passionate expert with broad experience in various industries, Natalia has held multiple positions with private and public organizations, in both Europe and North America. In her last role where she led both procurement and privacy for a government crown agency, Natalia established and set trends for innovative procurement practices, including processes to benefit Indigenous businesses across Canada for years to come. With a passion for social responsibility and love for challenging work, Natalia joined Nexii to set up and lead its growing sustainable supply chain.

 

Aru Mukherjee

Aru Mukherjee  |  CPHR, Senior HR Manager

Aru is a seasoned Human Resources Professional with 8+ years’ experience in construction, manufacturing and retail industries. She is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) with a Bachelors and Post Baccalaureate Degree in Human Resource Management. Aru brings her passion for people management to her role as Senior Human Resource Manager at Nexii. She is a firm believer that “employees are the most important asset of an organization”.

 

Anthony (Tony) Fong  |  CMA-CPA, PMP, CSM – Director of Accounting & IT

Tony is an Accounting, Project Management and IT Professional with a proven track record over 25 plus years of experience in delivering results in multiple industries as an employee or independent consultant/KPMG LLP , including financial institutions, big three telecommunications companies in Canada, post-secondary institutions, federal and provincial crown corporations, privately held major retailers, publicly traded companies, US governmental agencies, not-for-profit -agencies, and various province of BC ministries.

Able to lead and train staff with diverse backgrounds to deliver projects, integrating people, process and technology to improve organizational performance. Able to simplify complex IT initiatives into workable solutions for Boards of Directors and C-level management teams review and assessment.

Demonstrated ability to combine all aspects of business, marketing, information technology, such as, enterprise architecture, software development lifecycle, system integration, project governance and management, and regulatory commitments to improve profitability and organizational performance on greenfield capital and brownfield projects from $5 billion to $550,000 and ongoing operations.

 

Brian Carter

Brian Carter  |  Executive Vice President, Manufacturing

Brian is a senior executive, with more than 25 years of industrial leadership experience. Prior to joining Nexii, Brian served as the President and CEO of Seaspan, where he transformed the shipyards into an industry leader and partner for Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy. Under Brian’s leadership, Seaspan Shipyards secured one of the largest public investments in production and construction of world-class vessels, creating thousands of job opportunities.

Brian is committed to building a sustainable manufacturing system across Nexii, disrupting traditional industry methods and establishing the next generation of construction. Brian’s strategic approach, rooted in mentorship, collaboration, and employee growth will support Nexii in meeting its long-term vision of manufacturing and constructing high‑quality buildings.

 

Elliott Routly  |  Vice President of Finance

A Chartered Financial Analyst with over 15 years of experience in the financial industry, Elliott’s background includes work in investment banking, financial modelling, mergers and acquisitions, and futures trading. Prior to joining Nexii, Elliott worked for Agentis Capital Partners—a boutique financial services company, which specialized in infrastructure finance.

Elliott’s expertise in construction and infrastructure finance means he is uniquely positioned to consult and advise Nexii as it looks to expand across North America and beyond. As Vice President of Finance, Elliott directs and oversees Nexii’s financial growth plans and strategies, as well as leading the company’s accountancy operations.

 

Frederick Chinn  |  Execution Manager

A professional engineer with over 30 years’ experience in heavy industrial plant maintenance and operations, Frederick’s background includes work in operations management, labor relations, and maintenance and reliability management. Previously, Frederick held the position of Vice President at Catalyst Paper, and worked as a General Manager at Western Forest Products. He also served on the Operating Board of Directors for Tla’amin First Nations from 2016–2019, where he advised and consulted on business growth opportunities.

Frederick has been a part of the Nexii team since October 2019. In his role as Execution Manager, Frederick leads the Nexii Management System process where he works to facilitate close communication and cohesion across all of Nexii's departments, ensuring the timely and effective execution of company projects. In addition, Frederick ensures Nexii remains on track to reach company goals and objectives, working side-by-side with departments to help them achieve their targets.

 

Jesse Barruch  |  Vice President of People, Culture & Community

Jesse brings nearly two decades of experience in people and culture development to the Nexii team. Prior to joining Nexii, Jesse founded Avanta Consulting—a specialized recruitment and HR consultancy service, which provided companies across North America with the foundational tools and skills to make the most effective hires. In particular, Jesse focused his time and energy on helping companies achieve their full potential through innovation and culture development.

Jesse is now applying these skills at Nexii, fostering a culture that puts employees’ wellbeing at the heart of every business decision, and instilling a people-first ethos. Jesse is responsible for all of Nexii’s People, Culture and Community programs to ensure the company’s growth is sustainable and aligned with Nexii’s mission, purpose and values.

 

Leanne Viola  |  Director of People, Culture & Community

An experienced Human Resources professional, Leanne has a broad range of experience working in the consumer goods, gaming and fashion industries. Leanne’s previous roles include Human Resources Manager at United Front Games and as Director Human Resources at Herschel Supply Company, where she coordinated and led the execution of human resources programs across the North American, European and Asian offices.

Leanne is motivated by Nexii’s people-first ethos and its commitment to building a sustainable future for the planet.

 

Nancy Maribel

Nancy Maribel  |  Director of Marketing

Nancy has developed and implemented strategic marketing and communications campaigns for B2B firms for over 15 years. Nancy excels at creating strategies for construction and engineering consultancies, and previously worked as the Marketing and Communications Director for Integral Group a Vancouver-based green engineering firm. Nancy currently volunteers her time as the Director of Communications for the Living Future Vancouver Collaborative and joined the Communications Committee for Canadian Construction Women (CCW) in February 2020, Nancy also served as the 2019 CCW's Director of Communications.

 

Justin Maxwell

Justin Maxwell  |  Director of Investor Relations and Certified Manufacturing

Justin joins Nexii as an award-winning industry entrepreneur and business executive. Prior to joining the team, Justin founded Marine Tree Inc., and served as the CEO of WinWin Academy. Notably, while serving as the founder and EVP of Blue Planet Water Solutions, Justin co-authored a policy paper on oil spill response for the White House, and developed oil spill management technology solutions for the U.S. Coast Guard and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Justin’s passion and advocacy for environmental stewardship and sustainability brought him to join the Nexii team. He is a core driver of the investment relations team and continues to inspire clients with the Nexii vision, and the company’s commitment to create sustainable, disaster-resilient, durable, and cost-efficient buildings.

 

Laurenz Kosichek

Laurenz Kosichek  |  Architect AIBC – Vice President of Architecture

Laurenz has 30 years’ experience working as an architect, and was a Principal at Stantec Architecture Ltd, where he practiced for over two decades. Notably, he was the Architect of Record for the Whistler Sliding Centre for the 2010 Olympics, lead architect for the complete refurbishment of BC Place Stadium, and from 2013 to 2017 was the Architect of Record for The Amazing Brentwood. Laurenz currently advises Shape Properties’ Development Team, and is Vice President of Architecture at Nexii. His goal is to assist in the development and evolution of Nexii’s innovative product, helping to bring the Nexii solution to market.

 

Mary Ellen Thorburn  |  Chief Financial Officer

Mary Ellen Thorburn (“MET”) is a senior executive with over 25 years of experience leading companies through capital market transactions, acquisitions, tax planning initiatives, and financial transformations. She maintains an impressive track record of navigating world class, multinational organizations such as Barrick Gold, Eco Oro Minerals, and Great Panther Silver Limited through challenging financial landscapes.

MET is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) whose areas of expertise include, but are not limited to: strategic planning and budgeting; treasury management and capital raising; business valuations and modelling; team building and leadership; and capital projects management.
